Local stocks see slight gains

The key equity barometers traded with minor gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 24669 and hit a high of 24678 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Realty, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Auto shares gained, while Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Pharma shares declined. At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, up 368.73 points to 78,797.68. The Nifty 50 index added 11.20 points or 0.05% to 24,626.10. The broader market failed to keep pace with frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved higher by 0.52% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.79%. The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 2705 shares advanced and 995 shares fell. A total of 237 shares were unchanged. Nifty Realty index advanced 2.13% to 910. The index has eased by 1.74% in last one month and posted modest losses of 2.29% over last one year. Prestige Estates, inching higher 4.45%, led the gainers followed by Godrej Propert., up 4.35% and DLF, adding 2.91%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today. Nifty PSU Bank index moved higher by 0.85% to 8552. The index has edged up 1.75% in last one month and posted strong gains of 23.63% over last one year. Indian Bank, gaining 2.01%, led the gainers followed by Bank of Maha, edging up 1.59% and Bank of India, adding 1.39%, respectively. All 12 constituents are advancing today. Nifty Healthcare Index index moved lower by 0.92%. The index has risen slightly by 1.61% in last one month and recorded robust gains of 15.08% over last one year. Fortis Health., edging lower 1.63%, led the loosers followed by Torrent Pharma., easing 1.02% and Sun Pharma.Inds., slipping 1.01%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 17 are reporting loss today. In NIFTY500, New India Assura is the top gainer today, jumping 8.85% to Rs 187. The counter is modestly lower by 8.39% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 61276.67 in last five sessions compared to 80200.23 over last one month. Asian markets soared on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is significantly higher by 1.34%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is up 0.03%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is substantially higher by 3.25%.
